Coinciding with International Youth Day, the city of Mukalla witnessed the opening of the Youth Services Center, a dedicated and youth-friendly safe space designed to support and empower young women and men in Hadramout Governorate.

The Center aims to provide young people with a range of services, including capacity building and skills development, protection, psychosocial support, as well as sports and health activities. Through these services, the Center seeks to contribute to young people’s growth, well-being, and social development while creating wider spaces for learning, participation, and expression.

The opening ceremony was attended by a number of local and international representatives, including Dr. Murad Baalawi, Undersecretary of Hadramout Governorate for Youth and Civil Society Affairs, representing the local authority; Mr. Francesco Galtieri, Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); the Executive Director of Youth Without Borders Organization for Development; Dr. Salem Al-Obthani, Vice President of Hadramout University; and Eng. Alaa Al-Amoudi, Director General of the Youth and Sports Office in Hadramout Coast.

On the sidelines of the opening, the Center hosted an open discussion session that brought together young people and youth leaders with representatives of the local authority, UNFPA, Hadramout University, and Youth Without Borders Organization for Development.

Participants discussed key challenges facing young people, their development priorities and needs, and ways to strengthen youth participation in decision-making and community development.

The opening of the Center on International Youth Day reflects the importance of investing in young people’s capacities and providing accessible and safe spaces that enable them to access services and opportunities and participate more actively in shaping the future of their communities.
